Vietnam's benchmark VN-Index closed at 1,761.87 points on 27 October 2026, down 1.68 points or 0.1%, according to VietnamPlus. It was the index's third losing session in a row as short-term profit-taking picked up, VnExpress reported. Trading stayed thin: the Ho Chi Minh City Stock Exchange (HoSE) turned over 13,922.3 billion dong, only 3% more than the previous session.
A green morning, a red afternoon
According to VnExpress, the index swung sharply. It was up nearly 10 points at one stage in the morning before profit-taking pulled it lower, and spent most of the afternoon in the red, with close to two-thirds of stocks falling at one point. Nearly 200 HoSE stocks ended lower, well above the number of gainers.
VietnamPlus put HoSE volume at more than 631.6 million shares, up 4%, with block trades adding more than 163 million shares worth 3,671 billion dong. Cash flow remained below its 20-session average after a fairly strong recovery the week before.

Who held the index up and who dragged it down
Both outlets credit Vingroup's VIC with limiting the fall: it rose 1.4% to 240,200 dong and added more than 5 points to the index. VJC, SHB, VIB, VPL and MWG gained around 1%.
On the losing side, VnExpress named oil and gas, chemicals, technology, brokerages and banks as the weakest sectors, with VPB, GAS, VHM, LPB and BSR the biggest drags. VietnamPlus said LPB fell 2.5% to 38,400 dong and GAS 2% to 78,900 dong.
Foreign investors keep selling
Foreign investors were net sellers for a third straight session, VnExpress reported, with ACB and FPT the most sold at nearly 177 billion dong and 149 billion dong. TCB was the only stock they bought on a net basis worth more than 100 billion dong. On UPCOM, VietnamPlus said, they were net buyers of more than 131 billion dong.
What comes next
VietnamPlus said technical indicators point to more trading in a narrow range in the short term. According to VnExpress, VPBank Securities (VPX) had already said after the previous session that short-term profit-taking was stopping the index from holding its gains as it neared resistance, with no strong group of leading stocks. Experts cited by VnExpress advised investors to manage their portfolios and avoid chasing rallies, and VPX analysts said investors should wait patiently for the index to find a new balance around strong support such as the MA20, or for selling pressure to ease clearly, before buying again.
