Chinese Taipei coach Matt Ross has selected 25 players for the 2026 Casper Cup, including naturalised forward Jhon Estama Benchy. The Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) says the team will face hosts Vietnam on 11 November and Kyrgyzstan on 14 November.
Benchy and the selected squad
Benchy was born in Haiti and represented the country's youth teams without playing for its senior national side, according to the VFF. After five consecutive years playing in Chinese Taipei from 2019, he appeared for its national team in 2024. The federation says he can play as a central forward or on the wing.
Tuổi Trẻ reports that Benchy has won the Chinese Taipei Premier League three times and finished as its leading scorer once. Goalkeeper Jacobs Odo was born in the United States to a Chinese Taipei mother and Dutch father, the paper says. The VFF reports that he was voted the league's best goalkeeper last season.
Defender Wang Ruei and midfielder Emilio Estevez are absent from the selected group. The VFF lists their international appearance totals at 25 and 19 respectively when the squad was announced.
Chen's possible century
Midfielder Chen Po-liang had 98 international appearances, according to the federation. He could reach 100 if selected in both matches, a milestone that remains conditional on taking part.
The VFF also lists defender Kao Jing-hang at 1.93 metres and forward Chieng Po-ting at 1.89 metres. Tuổi Trẻ says the tournament will be played at Thiên Trường Stadium in Ninh Bình. Follow Vietnam national team fixtures.
