Vietnam’s government has proposed a mechanism to compensate reasonable costs when electricity tariffs are not adjusted promptly, as part of draft amendments to the Electricity Law. VnExpress reported that the proposal was presented to the National Assembly Standing Committee on September 21, linking tariff policy to economic stability and social welfare.
The reviewing body requested clarity on funding, implementation and when costs would be recognised and settled, to avoid automatically creating budget obligations or transferring all risks to electricity users. The draft is scheduled for parliamentary discussion in October. The proposal is not an enacted compensation mechanism or an announcement of a tariff change.
