Dương Thúy Vi will retire after Vietnam's 10th National Sports Games in 2026, according to SGGP. The experienced Hanoi wushu athlete has decided the Games will be the final competition of her career. The wushu programme runs at the Đồng Nai City sports arena from 22 to 30 November 2026, so her last appearances will fall in that window.

The decision comes shortly after the 20th Asian Games in Japan, where Thúy Vi won bronze. She turns 33 in 2026 and was the oldest member of Vietnam's wushu team at those Asian Games. Hanoi's sports delegation has again entered her for the National Games.

Before she steps away, Thúy Vi is targeting a gold medal. Her speciality is taolu, the forms discipline, in the spear and sword routines. After retiring she plans to move into coaching.

A career in milestones

SGGP lists a career that covers almost every major honour in the sport: national championship gold, world championship gold, Asian championship silver, results at the World Cup and Asian Cup, gold at the 17th Asian Games in 2014 and gold at the 2022 World Games. She has won a medal at every Asian Games from 2014 to 2026.

YearMilestone
2014Gold at the 17th Asian Games; specially recruited as a civil servant by Hanoi's sports sector
2014-2026Medals at consecutive Asian Games
2022World Games gold
2026Bronze at the 20th Asian Games in Japan
22-30/11/2026Final event: wushu at the 10th National Sports Games in Đồng Nai

The 2014 Asian Games gold also mattered away from competition: on the strength of that result, Hanoi's sports sector gave her a permanent civil-service post at the time. More than a decade later she was still in the national team at the 20th Asian Games, and still winning medals.

Wushu at the Games

Wushu at the 10th National Sports Games will award 30 sets of medals: 19 in taolu (forms) and 11 in sanda (full-contact sparring). Athletes entering sanda must be aged between 17 and 40. For Thúy Vi, the spear and sword taolu events are where she will chase one last gold.

What comes next

Thúy Vi will compete for Hanoi in Đồng Nai between 22 and 30 November 2026. After the Games she intends to turn to coaching; SGGP did not say where or with which team she will work.
