EVN is working with Quang Tri province and relevant authorities to study a proposal to include Quang Trach IV in the power plan, the Government News portal reported after a site visit on 3 November.

The Power Project Management Board 2 said the addition, if included, would take the complex above 6,000 MW. Quang Trach I, II and III together have a reported design capacity of approximately 4,500 MW, with separate implementation schedules.

Three plants at different stages

Both 701.5 MW units at Quang Trach I have synchronised with the national grid and are undergoing testing and equipment adjustments. The developer aims for commercial operation in 2026.

The 1,612.8 MW Quang Trach II LNG project began construction on 20 October 2026. Its two units are scheduled for commercial operation in February and April 2030, respectively. Those dates describe the planned development period following the groundbreaking.

For the approximately 1,500 MW Quang Trach III LNG plant, EVN is selecting an engineering, procurement and construction contractor. Commercial operation is projected for the first quarter of 2031, with detailed unit specifications to be determined after contractor selection.

Output depends on operating assumptions

Board director Do Thanh Tai estimated annual generation of about 29.4 billion kWh from the three plants using an assumption of 6,500 equivalent operating hours. That is a projection for the completed facilities under the stated operating conditions.

Shared infrastructure has been completed to serve the plants. The work ahead remains project-specific: testing at Quang Trach I, contractor selection for Quang Trach III, and study of the planning proposal for Quang Trach IV.
