Dong Nai has approved National Power Transmission Corporation, or EVNNPT, as the investor for the 220 kV Thong Nhat substation and its connecting lines. Government News reported that the project in Dau Giay ward is scheduled for completion and energisation in the third quarter of 2028.
Equipment and network connections
The full design includes two 220 kV transformers rated at 250 MVA each and two 110 kV transformers rated at 63 MVA each. The current phase will install both larger units and one of the smaller transformers.
Two double-circuit 220 kV line sections, approximately 0.2 km in combined length, will connect the substation to the existing Bao Loc - Song May line. The facility will use a partly indoor, partly outdoor layout.
Serving growing electricity demand
The investment is intended to shorten supply distances and meet increasing demand in Dau Giay and surrounding wards and communes. These areas currently receive electricity from the Song May and Xuan Loc 2 substations.
The project also supports future connections for the Trang Bom 2 and Thong Nhat 2 substations. Its planned benefits include stronger loop connections between the area's 220 kV and 110 kV networks, lower transmission losses, improved voltage quality and more flexible system operation.
EVNNPT must now complete the required land, construction, environmental, fire safety, connection and electricity-licensing procedures. Dong Nai's Department of Industry and Trade will coordinate monitoring and guidance as the project advances toward its planned commissioning date.
