A tighter final schedule

FIBA says the adjustment aims to protect sporting integrity because several teams could reach the final window still pursuing the remaining World Cup places. The revised dates specify twelve games across two days within the wider late-February national-team window. They are future fixtures in 2027, not completed results. Without announced venues or start times, a match-specific Vietnamese broadcast timetable cannot yet be established from this notice.

How seven teams qualify

FIBA's official competition guide explains that sixteen teams begin a six-window route to seven places at the World Cup in Doha. The first round has four groups of four playing home and away, with the leading three in each group advancing. Groups A and C merge into E, and B and D form F, producing two six-team groups. First-round results carry forward. Teams then play home and away against the three opponents arriving from the other initial group. The top three in each second-round group and the better fourth-placed team qualify. The revised final dates therefore concern a cumulative qualification race; they do not themselves award a berth or change those progression criteria.
