Ten units and six competition categories
Vietnam's 2026 national championship for leading sepak takraw teams opened in Vĩnh Long on October 20. The event runs until October 23 and brings together teams from ten localities and organisations.
More than 150 people are involved, including officials, coaches and athletes. That figure is not an athlete-only total. The participating units are Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi, Cần Thơ, Huế, Đồng Nai, Thanh Hóa, Nghệ An, Đồng Tháp, Vĩnh Long and the People's Public Security team.
The programme has six categories: men's and women's four-player teams, men's and women's three-player teams, and men's and women's doubles. The opening announcement does not provide winners for those events.
Development and event management
At the ceremony, Vĩnh Long's deputy culture, sports and tourism director Cao Quốc Dũng said the competition supported the national sepak takraw movement and the development of playing personnel. He linked its technical preparation to longer-term objectives involving the 34th Southeast Asian Games and the 21st Asian Games.
Organisers called for impartial, objective refereeing and committed competition from athletes under the stated principles of honesty, sportsmanship and progress. They also pledged suitable facilities, transport arrangements and security support.
Those objectives explain the role of the domestic championship after international events, but they do not turn future regional ambitions into medals already won. The confirmed new development is the tournament's opening, its participating field and its six-event programme over the announced four-day period.
