Newly promoted Thái Nguyên have won all four of their games to lead V.League 2 2026/27 (officially SACOMBANK V.League 2) on 12 points, scoring 12 goals and conceding 4, according to the league organiser VPF. Hưng Yên are second on 10 points from 3 wins and a draw, with 15 goals scored and only 3 conceded. Round four ended on 24 October, and VPF describes the top of the table as a two-horse race for now.

Round four: a Thái Nguyên comeback, Hưng Yên stay unbeaten

The headline result was Thái Nguyên's 3-2 win over Becamex TP.HCM at Bình Dương Stadium on 23 October. SGGP reported that Phạm Minh Đức's side came from behind twice; American striker Victor Mansaray scored twice and 20-year-old Nguyễn Đình Thịnh got the winner as well as an assist for Mansaray. Thái Nguyên's three earlier wins came against Huế, Bình Minh Sài Gòn and Quy Nhơn United; VPF argues it was the comeback against a promotion contender like Becamex that really showed what the newcomers are made of. Hưng Yên beat Long An 3-1 on 24 October to stay unbeaten, SGGP added.

Thái Nguyên: a newcomer built with care

According to SGGP, Thái Nguyên are built around the Hà Nội youth team that won promotion as champions of the 2026 national Second Division. Coach Phạm Minh Đức added players with long V-League and second-tier experience, including goalkeeper Phan Đình Vũ Hải, holding midfielders Trần Trung Hiếu and Đinh Tuấn Tài, centre-back Cao Trần Hoàng Hùng and Mansaray. His assistant is former star player Lương Trung Tuấn, and the club are financially backed by T&T Group, owners of Hà Nội FC. SGGP says Thái Nguyên are the only club in Vietnam's professional leagues with a perfect record.

Mansaray previously played for Becamex TP.HCM and CLB TP.HCM. SGGP said that after scoring against his old club he celebrated excessively towards the Becamex bench area and the VIP stand, prompting Đức to run out and calm him down. The coach said he likes taming players seen as wild horses and called Mansaray an important player for the club.

What's next: round five

According to VPF, Thái Nguyên do not face any of the promotion contenders from round five to round eight, before hosting Hưng Yên in round nine. In round five, Thái Nguyên will visit Long An at 15:30 on 28 October and Hưng Yên will host Huế at 18:00 the same day. Round five schedule (Vietnam time):
