Fresh Chinese jujubes are selling for about VND35,000-150,000 per kilogram at surveyed Ho Chi Minh City outlets, VnExpress reports. Size, quality and sales channel explain much of the spread, while interviewed traders describe more abundant supply.
The fresh fruit, also called winter jujube, is sold through markets, fruit shops, supermarkets and online channels.
Pack size and grading matter
An online five-kilogram box of small fruit is advertised at VND120,000, equivalent to VND24,000 per kilogram. A 1.5-kilogram supermarket box at VND150,000 works out at VND100,000 per kilogram.
Trader Oanh on Le Duc Tho Street lists small fruit at VND35,000, medium at VND60,000 and large at about VND120,000 per kilogram. She reports prices 10-15% below the same period last year in her business.
Thu Duc wholesale traders describe an approximately 20% reduction from early-season levels during August-October. These are observations from the businesses interviewed.
Wholesalers handle more fruit
Northern wholesaler Nguyen Van Hong says his import volume is about 30% higher year on year. Daily sales rose from roughly two tonnes to 3.5 tonnes from late October.
Under his grading system, small 3A fruit wholesales at VND20,000-24,000 per kilogram, while large 1A fruit is VND40,000-50,000. The usual season runs July-November.
VnExpress also describes protected cultivation in China extending harvest supply. For shoppers comparing the next offer, fruit grade, box weight and seller provide the relevant basis alongside the surveyed prices.
