A survey at traditional markets in Ho Chi Minh City found that many vegetables were 20% to 50% more expensive than a month earlier after prolonged rain. Da Lat broccoli rose from about VND45,000 to VND65,000 per kilogram, while scallions, cilantro and Thai basil were selling at around VND70,000, up VND25,000.
Traders said deliveries to markets had fallen, while a cooperative in Tay Ninh reported daily output dropping from more than three tonnes to about 2.5 tonnes. Prices, especially for herbs, could rise further if the rain continues. These figures describe surveyed markets and are not a nationwide CPI measure or a uniform national increase.
