Andoni Iraola said Dominik Szoboszlai and Jeremie Frimpong would be unavailable for a period after both were forced off during Liverpool's 2–1 victory at Brentford on October 17. The manager described different problems for the two players.
Szoboszlai had missed Liverpool's previous two games because of a fitness issue. He returned at Gtech Community Stadium but lasted only 32 minutes. Iraola said the original problem had recurred and had probably not healed sufficiently.
Frimpong's brief appearance
Frimpong entered at half-time but left the field shortly afterwards. Iraola described his injury as new, while also mentioning that the player had experienced cramp against LASK earlier in the week.
With Brentford down to ten men, Liverpool had introduced Frimpong to provide greater attacking threat on the right. His departure required another adjustment, with Victor Munoz taking over at right-back.
Iraola praised Munoz's performance in that role. Munoz subsequently equalised before Alexander Isak completed the visitors' comeback.
Recovery concerns
The manager linked the difficult selection decisions to Liverpool's European trip two days earlier, a late return and limited recovery time. He described choosing between tired players who had already started twice and returning players whose readiness remained uncertain.
These were initial post-match observations rather than published medical findings. Iraola did not announce scan results, injury grades or individual return dates. His confirmed assessment was that Szoboszlai needed further recovery, Frimpong had suffered a new problem and Liverpool would lose both for some time.
