Jaylin Williams has reflected on seeing his name on a street sign in Fort Smith, Arkansas, the city where he grew up. In an October interview with OKC Thunder Wire, cited by Tuổi Trẻ, the Oklahoma City Thunder player said it was the same road he once walked to school.

Recognition from his hometown

Williams described the presence of his family and former teachers and said he wanted relatives to share the pride represented by the sign.

Fort Smith's city council approved resolutions honouring Williams and teammate Isaiah Joe in May, with implementation following months later. A section of North 23rd Street beside Northside High School received the honorary name Jaylin Williams Court. A road section on the other side of the school honours Joe.

Both attended Northside and won the 2025 NBA championship. The city's recognition covers their achievements, professional journeys and community ties. Williams has also held a free basketball camp for children at his old school.

From Northside to Oklahoma City

Williams has Vietnamese heritage through his mother, who was born in Saigon before moving to the United States. At Northside, he recorded 20 points and 16 rebounds in the 2019 state-title game and later received Arkansas's 2020 Gatorade boys' basketball award.

He averaged 10.9 points and 9.8 rebounds for Arkansas in 2021–22, helping the college reach the NCAA's last eight. Oklahoma City selected him 34th overall in the 2022 draft.

During the 2024–25 championship season, he averaged 5.9 points, 5.6 rebounds and 2.6 assists while shooting 39.9% from three. His three-year contract worth up to $24 million followed on his 23rd birthday, linking professional progress with the hometown story he is now revisiting.
