September 10 marks a milestone in the creation of Prison Diary, the poetry collection written by Ho Chi Minh during his imprisonment in China. In its historical feature published on September 10, 2026, Bao Van Hoa recalled the completion of the collection's final poem on that date in 1943.
The newspaper cited information from the Communist Party of Vietnam's online portal. Ho Chi Minh was being held in Guangxi at the time, and wrote the collection in classical Chinese as he was moved between prisons. The volume contains 133 poems.
The poems record experiences of confinement while revealing the author's response to the conditions around him. The completion date therefore belongs both to the history of his political life and to the literary legacy he left behind. It places the collection within the circumstances in which it was produced.
Prison Diary was recognised as a national treasure under a decision dated October 1, 2012. The anniversary feature returns readers to the origins of a work created more than eight decades ago, connecting its present cultural status with the period of imprisonment that shaped it.
