Nguyen Hung performed Goi con tim lam qua live for the first time at the Ho Chi Minh City premiere of Bo sua bay on November 3. VnExpress reported that he used a restrained piano-led arrangement and invited the audience to join parts of the chorus.
A song drawn from the film's romance
Hung wrote the theme around the relationship between Quan, played by Vo Dien Gia Huy, and San, portrayed by Ngoc Xuan. He said the character's sincere affection inspired the song's central idea of offering his heart as a gift.
Director Nguyen Pham Thanh Dat selected it for the soundtrack because its romantic, simple character suited the film. Released in late August, the music video had exceeded 10 million YouTube views at the time of VnExpress's report.
Balancing music with a leading role
Thanh Nien reported that Hung also plays Trau, a dairy-farm worker, while composing music during production. He described pressure from the dramatic and action scenes and from working alongside experienced actors.
The film is his third collaboration with Thanh Dat after Dan ca go and Tan sua. Although from central Vietnam, Hung also had to prepare dialogue in a northern accent.
A member of Maydays, he previously gained attention for Phep mau and played the soldier Hai in Mua do. Acting has also supplied material for his songwriting.
Bo sua bay is set in 1990s Moc Chau and follows a fictional plan by workers to steal a milk formula. Its theatrical release is scheduled for November 6.
