US imports rose more than 4% to a record US$420.8 billion in August, VnExpress reports, citing Commerce Department figures released on October 6. Exports increased 1.4% to over US$315 billion, while the trade deficit widened almost 14% to US$105.6 billion. Goods imports accounted for a substantial part of the increase as businesses replenished inventories. The figures describe August's trade flows and should not be read as full-year import, export or deficit totals.
