Rahmat Erwin Abdullah won clean-and-jerk and total silver medals in the men’s 75 kg category at the World Weightlifting Championships in Ningbo. Tuổi Trẻ reported a 157 kg snatch and 202 kg clean and jerk for a 359 kg total, with his final attempt at 207 kg unsuccessful.

A rushed preparation, then an incomplete lift

Tuổi Trẻ, citing Xinhua’s account, described Rahmat still discussing technique with his coach as preparation time ran down. He reacted with about 11 seconds remaining and reached the platform with roughly five seconds left.

He began the movement with less than a second on the clock. Tuổi Trẻ’s account of the IWF description says he brought the bar to his shoulders but did not complete the jerk. That is different from saying the attempt was invalidated solely because he failed to start in time.

Rahmat attributed difficulty concentrating to the rushed preparation and thought he might have succeeded with more time. That is his own assessment of an alternative scenario, not an additional successful lift.

The totals that counted

Ri Ryong Hyon of North Korea won total gold with 365 kg. Rahmat’s 359 kg placed him ahead of Thailand’s Weeraphon Wichuma, who took bronze with 355 kg. The attempted 207 kg did not enter Rahmat’s result.

The article also recalled earlier Asian Games marks of 206 kg in the clean and jerk and 366 kg overall. They provide background to his ambition, without proving the final Ningbo attempt would otherwise have succeeded.

The competition preceded the 2 November article. Rahmat and his coaches can now review preparation for a final lift; any later record target still requires a completed attempt in competition.
