Ten contestants advanced to the fourth Sao Mai 2026 liveshow after the Tình ca programme on October 18. Kim Jea Bin and Phạm Thùy Linh were eliminated from the third live knockout round, broadcast on VTV3 and VTVgo.
The 12 singers performed in four groups of three, with judges commenting after each group. The theme required technical ability alongside storytelling, emotional delivery and a distinctive personal approach.
Family and homeland broaden the theme
Nguyễn Xuân Dũng sang Lời nói dối của cha, while Nguyễn Đỗ Khánh An performed Cõng mẹ về trời. Judges praised Khánh An's clear folk-influenced voice and the maturity of the performance.
Other selections explored homeland memories. Hoàng Thu Hà received positive comments for her Nghệ An vocal colour in Thương nhớ hậu phương, while Mai Thu Hương combined Chiếc khăn piêu and Inh lả ơi.
Đỗ Hải Đăng brought an energetic R&B arrangement to Mặt trời của em. Judges Võ Hạ Trâm and Nguyễn Hải Phong highlighted creativity and vitality in the performance.
Difficult choices bring competitive pressure
Bùi Nguyễn Bảo Anh chose a demanding medley of Nếu điều đó xảy ra and Ngày nào đó, drawing recognition for stepping beyond familiar territory. Phạm Hải Anh was praised for vocal control in Cánh cửa mùa xuân.
Kim Jea Bin received positive assessments after Sơn nữ ca but still exited. Tấn Minh advised further study in composition and piano. Phạm Thùy Linh was recognised as promising, with encouragement to build stronger climaxes.
Bảo Anh was the final contestant confirmed to advance. The next liveshow is scheduled for 9pm on October 25, with song choice, interpretation and audience connection remaining central tests for the 10 singers.
