Swiatek beat Donna Vekic 4-6, 7-6, 6-2, winning the second-set tie-break 7-0 as she found a way to turn the match around. Zheng defeated Marie Bouzkova 7-6, 4-6, 7-5, taking the opening tie-break 7-3 and pulling clear in the final two games. Both victories required the players to regain composure and produce their best tennis under pressure.
