Thái Sơn Nam TP HCM will give their young players an opportunity at the 2026 Đồng Tháp international futsal tournament, scheduled for November 3–7 at Đồng Tháp University's sports hall. The club want to challenge for the title while assessing the development of their emerging squad.
The tournament, now in its 10th edition, brings together eight clubs: six from Vietnam and two from Thailand and Cambodia. The teams will be divided into two groups for a single round-robin stage before the semi-finals.
Young players face varied opposition
Most members of Thái Sơn Nam's squad have already experienced the national championship, national cup or national U20 competition. The Đồng Tháp event adds matches against different types of domestic and international opponents.
Coach Khổng Đình Hùng sees competitive games as an essential test of abilities developed in training. He wants the players to gain experience, strengthen their composure and demonstrate what they can contribute.
The decision to field a young group therefore serves a development purpose while retaining a clear competitive target.
Tournament also supports squad assessment
This will be Thái Sơn Nam's third consecutive appearance at the Cao Lãnh event. They won once and finished runners-up once in their previous two visits.
The coaching staff will also use the matches to review form before the futsal competition at the 2026 National Sports Games. Individual performances will help inform that wider preparation.
Organisers have announced prizes of VND40 million for the champions, VND30 million for second place and VND20 million for third. Awards for the best goalkeeper and leading scorer will accompany the team prizes. The tournament remains ahead, with Thái Sơn Nam's title ambition to be tested on court.
