Thể Công Viettel goalkeeper Lawrence Caruso has completed Vietnamese citizenship procedures and is using the name Caruso Minh Khang, Bongda24h reports. The development follows his move into Vietnamese club football for the 2026/27 season.

Australian background

Born in Melbourne in 2004, Caruso has an Australian father of Italian heritage and a Vietnamese mother. His development included Melbourne City and Dandenong City before spells with Central Coast Mariners, Western Sydney Wanderers and Green Gully SC.

He began training with Thể Công Viettel in February 2026 while seeking an opportunity in the V.League. Following that trial period, the club registered him for the 2026/27 campaign.

The citizenship development comes during this new stage of his career after his experience in the Australian game.

Club appearances are the immediate goal

Bongda24h highlights Caruso's ability with his feet and involvement in building play from the back as elements of his goalkeeping. Those qualities accompany the shot-stopping and penalty-area work he continues developing while competing for a place.

The 22-year-old has previously expressed a wish to represent Vietnam. The report identifies regular appearances for Thể Công Viettel and further V.League experience as his immediate objectives.

It also names Nguyen Filip, Dang Van Lam and Patrik Le Giang among Vietnam's goalkeeping options. For Caruso, the next stage centres on his club work following the citizenship process. Further coverage of his playing environment is available through Vietnam football news.
