Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross will compose the score for David Fincher's The Further Mis-Adventures of Cliff Booth, Variety reports. The credit appeared on the film's poster and marks their sixth movie collaboration with the director.
A partnership stretching back to The Social Network
Their first Fincher film was The Social Network in 2010, which earned them Academy and Golden Globe awards for its original score. They subsequently scored The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, Gone Girl, Mank and The Killer. The Dragon Tattoo soundtrack also received a Grammy.
Their work beyond Fincher includes Soul, Challengers, Bird Box and Queer. Ross's collaboration with Reznor extends back to the 2002 Tapeworm project and numerous Nine Inch Nails releases. That history establishes the partnership's continuity without revealing what the new score will sound like.
The film and its release plan
The project expands on 2019's Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, placing Brad Pitt's Cliff Booth at the centre. Quentin Tarantino wrote the screenplay, which is set eight years after the earlier film's events. Elizabeth Debicki, Scott Caan, Carla Gugino, Timothy Olyphant and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II are among the cast.
Variety reports a two-week exclusive IMAX engagement beginning November 25, followed by a Netflix launch on December 23.
The next stage is the announced release campaign and further introductions to the film's music. The composer credit confirms who is creating the score, while a fuller assessment awaits the completed work's presentation.
