Vietnam's women's national team are unchanged at 37th in the latest FIFA women's world ranking, the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) said. They remain sixth in Asia, behind Japan, North Korea, Australia, South Korea and China, and are still the highest-ranked side in Southeast Asia.
Where Vietnam stand
Directly above Vietnam is Slovenia, who climbed two places to 36th, their best position ever. Neither the VFF nor SGGP published Vietnam's points total for this edition.
SGGP pointed out that Vietnam played at the 20th Asian Games during the ranking period and reached the quarter-finals. Bongda24h argued that being regional number one is no reason for complacency, naming the Philippines and Thailand as rivals capable of applying pressure.
Movement elsewhere
The update followed 183 international matches, including Women's World Cup 2027 qualifiers in Europe and Africa, African Olympic qualifiers and friendlies. Spain stay first and stretched their lead over the second-placed United States to almost 80 points; Germany hold third after two home friendly wins. Denmark were the only top-10 side to move, rising two places to 10th, back in that group for the first time since August 2010.
Malawi made the biggest jump, 49 places to 104th, after reaching the final of the 2026 Women's Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) and qualifying for a first Women's World Cup; their 158.44-point gain is a team record. WAFCON champions Cameroon rose nine places to 62nd, while Egypt fell 14 places to 113th after failing to take a point in the group stage.
Hồ Chí Minh City take on Asia
At club level, SGGP reported that Hồ Chí Minh City women's club, champions of Vietnam for an eighth straight season and a 15th time overall, will play in the AFC Women's Champions League 2026-27, which starts on 1 November in India. It is the club's third appearance in Asia's top women's club competition.
Coach Đoàn Thị Kim Chi's team are in Group B with Hwacheon KSPO WFC of South Korea, North Korea's 4.25 Sports Club and hosts East Bengal FC. Each group is a single round robin, with the top two and the two best third-placed teams reaching the quarter-finals. VFF vice-president Trần Anh Tú told SGGP the club must set up a company, secure a parent organisation and improve its facilities and management to meet professional standards, work it expects to complete in 2027.
What comes next
The national women's league plays its final round on 23 October, leaving the Hồ Chí Minh City club less than a week before travelling to India, SGGP said. See the VFF's plan for the national women's awards and follow the team on our Vietnam national teams page and football section.
