Vietnam U17s plan to use overseas training camps in South Korea and the United Arab Emirates to sharpen their preparations for the 2026 FIFA U17 World Cup. In an interview published by the Vietnam Football Federation on 15 October, coach Cristiano Roland described fitness, tactical discipline and mental readiness as connected priorities.
Testing the squad abroad
Three friendlies are planned in South Korea, followed by a UAE camp before the team travels to Qatar. Roland sees high-intensity opposition as an opportunity to assess his players and test tactical options. Those matches remain forthcoming.
The early preparation phase concentrated on strength and endurance before practice games were introduced. Nutrition, recovery, appropriate supplements and rest are also part of the programme, intended to help the squad reach the tournament in good condition.
Vietnam face Belgium, New Zealand and Mali in Group G. The coaches have studied all three opponents, although Roland wants immediate attention directed towards the opening meeting with Belgium. Seeking points in each match is an objective rather than a prediction of the final standings.
Collective discipline comes first
Roland praised Nguyễn Lực's individual technique but said several players could make a difference. He considers cohesion and disciplined attacking and defending essential to giving those individuals useful opportunities.
The staff are also discussing social-media pressure with the squad, drawing on experiences at the Asian finals. Players are being encouraged to remain focused through praise and criticism. Roland's ambition to make an impression therefore rests on continued preparation; the World Cup results are still to be earned.
