Vietnam's Industry Agency met European Union experts in Hanoi on 19 October to explore cooperation on critical raw materials. Discussions focused on supply chains, technology capacity and ways to increase industrial value within Vietnam.
Research under Global Gateway
The experts are involved in the EU-funded Critical Raw Materials Facility, or CRMF, implemented under the Global Gateway initiative. The programme aims to diversify and strengthen supply chains through sustainable, mutually beneficial partnerships.
Deputy Director Đỗ Nam Bình chaired the Vietnamese side. The EU participants included JETP and energy-transition adviser Nicolas Leconte and supply-chain researchers Patrick Chang and Vũ Hồng Cẩm.
Vietnam's Ministry of Industry and Trade described critical raw materials as a potential area of cooperation connected with manufacturing, energy transition and participation in global value chains.
Processing and technology priorities
Bình expressed interest in stronger research and technology-transfer links with EU partners. The discussion covered industrial value chains, domestic production capacity and opportunities in more technically advanced industries.
The approach extends beyond extracting and consuming resources. Access to advanced technology, deeper processing and higher domestic value added were also identified as important to industrial development.
The EU experts regarded the information shared by the agency as useful for their continuing research. It will help identify potential areas for further discussion and cooperation.
The meeting represents an information-sharing and research stage. The published account does not announce a mining contract, investment amount or approved new project. Possible partnerships remain subjects for further assessment rather than completed industrial investments.
