Vovinam forms part of cooperation between the Nigeria Vovinam Federation and Guardian Girls International to support women and girls, Tuoi Tre reported. A demonstration and introductory self-defence activity took place in Abuja in October, while wider training is planned from January 2027.

An agreement between organisations

Citing Vietnam's embassy in Nigeria, Tuoi Tre said the activity was held at the embassy to encourage women's participation in sport. The World Vovinam Federation also described a memorandum of understanding with Guardian Girls International.

A Japanese embassy announcement dated October 20 identified four partners: Yakubu Gowon University and Nigerian aikido, pencak silat and vovinam organisations.

Guardian Girls was co-founded by Shin Koyamada and Nia Lyte. Its vovinam initiative launched internationally in Hanoi on September 16, 2025, combining self-defence with education about preventing gender-based violence.

Training alongside support mechanisms

The Nigerian programme aims to connect physical training with education and cooperation with police gender specialists assisting people reporting violence. These are organisational commitments, rather than a national decision making vovinam compulsory.

The programme's website plans training for girls in Abuja from January 2027, but the account provides no separate vovinam class schedule or enrolment numbers.

An existing Nigerian vovinam movement includes a police association. A claim of activity in nearly 30 states comes from federation leadership without independent participation statistics. The next development to watch is a concrete implementation and enrolment plan, rather than treating the cooperation agreement as evidence that all classes are already operating.
