How Hà Nội turned their form around

Hà Nội came into the knockout stage in poor form. Tuổi Trẻ noted that they won their first eight group matches but lost five of their last six, slipping to fourth and setting up a semi-final against table-toppers HCĐG Lào Cai. Thanh Niên singled out a surprise defeat by bottom side Hưng Yên during the second stage.

Coach Nguyễn Tuấn Kiệt's game plan worked. According to Thanh Niên, his side shut down HCĐG Lào Cai's two main attacking threats, Trần Thị Bích Thủy and Thai import Kuttika Kaewpin, with middle blocker Lê Thanh Thúy blocking effectively throughout. SGGP reported that HCĐG Lào Cai always lined up two or three blockers against Serbian import Brankica Mihajlović or outside hitter Bùi Thị Ánh Thảo, yet still could not stop them.

The second set decided the match. Tuổi Trẻ reported that Hà Nội led 5-1, then made a run of errors and fell 9-16 behind. Mihajlović took over from there, and Lê Thanh Thúy chipped in with blocks and attacks as Hà Nội came back to win the set 25-22. They closed out the third 25-17.

SGGP said it is Hà Nội's first appearance in a national championship final, straight after promotion as winners of the 2025 national A-division. HCĐG Lào Cai, meanwhile, are still waiting for the first national title in their history, Tuổi Trẻ noted.

Binh chủng Thông tin end VTV Bình Điền Long An's reign

VTV Bình Điền Long An won back-to-back titles in 2024 and 2025, Tuổi Trẻ said, but were never at that level this season. Binh chủng Thông tin were the last team to book a semi-final place, yet kept improving under coach Phạm Văn Long.

The VTV Bình Điền Long An coach, Nguyễn Thị Ngọc Hoa, put experienced setter Võ Thị Kim Thoa in her starting line-up, SGGP reported. American import Thomas-Ailara kept scoring as Binh chủng Thông tin took the first set 25-19, according to Tuổi Trẻ. The holders led for spells in the second set but lost it 23-25, and in the third they were 6-2 and then 15-13 ahead before Binh chủng Thông tin came back to win 25-23.

Thanh Niên put part of the defeat down to absences. The champions were without their leading hitter Trần Thị Thanh Thúy, who is busy playing in Japan, and lost opposite Đặng Thị Kim Thanh to injury during the second set. Hoàng Thị Kiều Trinh and Phạm Quỳnh Hương were in strong form for the winners.

According to SGGP, Binh chủng Thông tin are back in the final after a five-year wait, since they won the title in 2021.

SGGP reported that the club's management had set Hà Nội a top-three target for 2026, which reaching the final has already secured. Nguyễn Tuấn Kiệt left Ngân hàng Công Thương before the season to take the Hà Nội job. He reached national finals in 2016 and 2019 as part of his former club's coaching staff but has never won the title as a head coach. In SGGP's profile of him, he said every win belongs to the whole team.

What comes next

Thanh Niên's schedule for 25 October 2026:

  • 17:00 – VTV Bình Điền Long An v HCĐG Lào Cai, third-place match.
  • 19:30 – Hà Nội Tasco Auto v Binh chủng Thông tin, final.

At the other end of the table, Ninh Bình beat Hưng Yên 3-0 in a classification match on 24 October 2026 and are safe. SGGP reported that Hưng Yên will play a relegation play-off on 25 October 2026; the paper did not give a start time.

Whatever happens in the final, there will be a new champion after VTV Bình Điền Long An's two titles. Hà Nội Tasco Auto are chasing a first national crown in their first season up, while Binh chủng Thông tin want their first title since 2021.
