The Try Guys' Without a Recipe is returning for a ninth season hosted by JonnyCakes. Variety reports a six-episode elimination tournament premiering on 2nd Try on November 7, followed by a YouTube launch on November 14.
A host familiar with the competition
JonnyCakes is known for hyper-realistic cakes and competed on Netflix's Is It Cake? He has also judged Without a Recipe, making the hosting assignment a new role within a show he already knows.
Try Guys Keith Habersberger and Zach Kornfeld will compete alongside Ryan Garcia, Joyce Louis-Jean, Ash Perez, Sequoia B. Holmes, Kwesi James and Ryann Graham.
The judging team and platforms
Judges include Top Chef season 23 winner Rhoda Magbitang; chef and television personality Elizabeth Falkner; Valerie Confections owner and Sweets author Valerie Gordon; Smosh performer and former Mythical Kitchen producer Trevor Evarts; and actor, host and cookbook author Jimmy Wong. Other chefs and pastry professionals include Jude Parra-Sickles, Monique Chan, Kat Turner, Katianna Hong, Mitzi Reyes, Jen Yee and Johnny Ryan Murphy.
The Try Guys launched paid service 2nd Try in 2024 after developing an audience at BuzzFeed and on their own YouTube channel.
Other series on the service and channel include Phoning It In, Trolley Problems, Escape the Kitchen, Smoke Show, Eat the Menu and After the Menu.
The next milestones are the November 7 launch on 2nd Try and the November 14 YouTube premiere. JonnyCakes moves from previous judging duties into hosting the elimination tournament.
