Khanh Hoa’s Department of Industry and Trade has issued its appraisal findings on the Ca Na LNG power project’s feasibility study, Bao Chinh Phu reported. The documentation can move towards submission for approval after required revisions, while the investor retains responsibility for its investment decision and project viability.
Plant and import infrastructure
The selected investor is the Trung Nam–Sideros River consortium. The project has planned capacity of 1,500 MW and investment exceeding VND 57.3 trillion, financed directly by the investor. It covers about 265.7 hectares of land and water in Ca Na, including roughly 33.4 hectares for the plant and technical corridor.
The design includes combined cycle gas turbines, LNG storage and regasification handling 1–1.2 million tonnes annually. Proposed infrastructure includes a tank of around 220,000 cubic metres, a gas pipeline, an import berth and an eastern breakwater about 2,400 metres long.
Requirements before implementation
The department considered the project consistent with the cited energy direction and power planning. Once operating, it is expected to support southern Vietnam’s electricity supply. That remains an anticipated contribution from a planned facility.
The investor must review costs, financial feasibility and funding arrangements, address appraisal comments and secure fuel supply across the operating life. Environmental impact assessment approval is also required before project approval under the process described.
Next comes completion of those requirements and the investor’s appraisal and approval steps. The stated schedule requires construction and operation before December 31, 2030. The latest feasibility findings therefore mark a procedural advance rather than the start of power generation.
