Brainstorm Media has acquired US distribution rights to Imposters, the science-fiction thriller from first-time feature director Caleb Phillips. Variety reported that a theatrical release is planned for early 2027 following the film's premiere at SXSW 2026.
International deals expand the release network
The US agreement forms part of sales company Blue Finch Films' deals ahead of the American Film Market. Vortex acquired Canada, while Umbrella Entertainment took Australia and New Zealand.
European buyers include Tiberius in Germany, VOD Factory in France, A Contracorriente Films in Spain, Vendetta Filmes in Portugal and Plaion in Italy. Other agreements cover Benelux, the CIS territories and Poland.
Particular Crowd bought Latin America, Falcon Films took the Middle East and North Africa, BookMyShow secured India and Penny Black acquired airline rights. Blue Finch will release the film itself in the UK and Ireland.
A feature debut builds on short-film work
Phillips also wrote the screenplay. His earlier short Other Side of the Box won awards at SXSW and BiFan. Jessica Rothe leads the new film's cast alongside Barnett and Vazquez.
The fictional plot follows parents whose baby is abducted. After the mother finds a way to bring him home, her husband begins to suspect the returned child is not their son.
Thomas Bond and Sara Seligman produced for Broken Pig Productions, with Joe Bandelli also producing. Since Austin, the film has travelled to festivals including Beyond Fest, Chicago, BiFan, Edinburgh and Sitges.
The early-2027 US plan is its next announced theatrical milestone as international sales continue.
