Thomasin McKenzie, Finn Cole and Antony Starr will star in The Lie of Sherwood Forest, a new Robin Hood film directed by Patrick Vollrath. Variety reported that production is scheduled to begin on November 9, with Logical Pictures International and Protagonist Pictures handling sales at the American Film Market.

A deception drives the fictional story

The plot follows a young woman who tricks Robin Hood and his companions into rescuing her captured brother. The mission develops into a dangerous heist as hidden motives emerge and loyalties fracture.

Harris Kauffman wrote the screenplay from a story by Joachim Heden and Vollrath. Smylie Bradwell, Brian Vernel and Richard Durden also feature in the cast.

Sales representatives described a survival-driven approach to the familiar legend, with moral choices and justice among its themes. Those comments outline the partners' creative ambitions before filming.

Producers reunite with the 7500 director

German company augenschein produces through Maximilian Leo, Jonas Katzenstein and Daniel Sonnabend, with ZDF co-producing. Vollrath previously worked with augenschein on 7500.

Katzenstein said the team developed the idea with the director and sought another collaboration. Leo highlighted the grounded action and tension they intend to bring to Robin Hood's world.

Augenschein and Logical Pictures Group are financing, with support from German film bodies, Film- und Medienstiftung NRW, the European Investment Fund and Creative Europe Media.

The AFM presentation introduces the project to distributors while the team prepares for the announced November 9 production start.
