Liverpool lost 2-1 at Aston Villa in the Women's Super League after taking a first-half lead through Natalia Ramos.
The club's official report described an encouraging opening half followed by a Villa recovery. Chasity Grant equalised before a Grace Fisk own goal decided the match at Keys Park.
Ramos gives Liverpool the lead
Ramos scored her first WSL goal in the 16th minute, collecting Fuka Nagano's pass, advancing and striking into the top corner from distance.
Liverpool continued to create opportunities. Ramos supplied Beata Olsson for a header, while Mia Enderby and Cornelia Kapocs tested goalkeeper Akane Okuma.
The visitors recorded 11 first-half shots but reached the interval with only a one-goal advantage.
Villa respond after the break
Villa returned with greater attacking intent, forcing Khiara Keating into two saves before equalising on the hour.
Okuma played long after a Liverpool corner. Grant raced onto the ball and finished into the far top corner from a tight angle.
Liverpool introduced the fit-again Vivien Endemann, but the hosts continued to threaten. With a little under 20 minutes remaining, Oceane Deslandes's corner passed the near-post defenders, struck Fisk and went in.
Olsson came closest to an equaliser after Endemann advanced down the right, but Villa protected their lead.
Liverpool next face Manchester United in the Players Cup on October 21. The defeat leaves them considering both their missed first-half opportunities and the change in momentum that followed the interval.
