Netflix has ordered Prep straight to series, adapting Curtis Sittenfeld's novel with Nicole Taylor as writer, showrunner and executive producer. Variety reports that Gloria Sanchez Productions will join the novelist and screenwriter in the production team.

A boarding-school story about belonging

The story follows scholarship student Lee Fiora through her years at Ault, a prestigious New England boarding school. Friendship, crushes and class shape her attempts to find a place among privileged, confident classmates.

Taylor calls Prep her favourite novel and says she has wanted to adapt it for the twenty years since first reading it. She singles out Sittenfeld's portrayal of an introspective, bookish adolescent and the difficulties of social mobility as central attractions.

Sittenfeld credits Alix Taylor with guiding the project and praises Nicole Taylor's scripts for giving her a new understanding of her own novel. Their comments connect the commission with a long development ambition.

The people behind the adaptation

Will Ferrell, Jessica Elbaum and Alix Taylor executive produce for Gloria Sanchez, with Sittenfeld also executive producing.

Nicole Taylor previously created Netflix's 2024 One Day, starring Leo Woodall and Ambika Mod. Her other credits include Three Girls, Dracula and The White Queen. Gloria Sanchez's Netflix work includes The Hawk, Dead to Me, No Good Deed and The Woman in the House Across the Street from the Girl in the Window.

The series order now brings Taylor's adaptation plans into a Netflix project, combining her writing and showrunning duties with the author and Gloria Sanchez's production team.
