Netflix is introducing AI Discover to a limited group of US subscribers on its TV app, according to Variety. The November 3 launch offers recommendations through preset themes, with expansion to more customers and regions planned in the following weeks.
A theme-based tool rather than a chatbot
Options include lighter viewing, scares, workplace comedy and family movie nights. Netflix says recommendations are generated in real time from viewing history, preferences and platform trends. That is the company's explanation of the mechanism, not a published measure of recommendation quality.
The initial rollout covers English-language Netflix use on supported smart TVs in the US. Eligible accounts see a Discover tab, while children's profiles are excluded. The experience is interactive but is not described as a free-form chatbot.
That scope does not confirm availability in Vietnam. A broader regional plan still needs specific announcements before local access dates can be established.
Testing a different discovery experience
Netflix has long used machine learning for personalisation. AI Discover makes the AI branding visible to users and is presented as a work in progress. The company wants feedback to decide which elements to retain, improve or bring into its main experience.
It says rejected recommendations will be remembered within AI Discover. That stated function does not guarantee perfect suggestions or increased viewing time.
The next step is feedback from the initial audience and details of expansion. The launch describes a bounded test, while its usefulness and engagement effects require evidence from actual use.
