Quảng Ngãi province has approved changes to its intangible cultural heritage inventory under Decision 2536/QĐ-UBND. Báo Văn Hóa reports 47 entries in this round: seven new additions and 40 updates, covering cultural practices and knowledge held by communities across the province.

Seven additions reflect community traditions

The new entries include cinnamon cultivation and processing knowledge of the Co people, Hát Hố singing, the Bà Ngũ Hành temple festival in An Phú, vegetable-growing knowledge and Kinh lullabies in Lý Sơn.

They also cover dugout-canoe making knowledge of the Ba Na community's Rơ Ngao group in Đăk Tô, Đăk Hà, Đăk Pxi and Sa Bình, and the Hrê people's making and performance of Sáo đất in Sơn Linh and Ba Dinh.

The report identifies Hát Hố and Lý Sơn lullabies as at risk of decline. Dugout-canoe making knowledge is recorded as having diminished, highlighting concerns about preservation and transmission.

Updated records describe present conditions

Most of the 40 revised entries concern the Ba Na community's Rơ Ngao group. They span oral traditions, performance, festivals, social and religious practices, crafts and folk knowledge.

Examples include Hơ Mon epics, Ching goong gongs, xoang dance, Tơ Rưng and Đinh Pút instruments, and folk songs and lullabies. Agricultural and community ceremonies, weaving, basketry, forging, traditional house construction and medicinal knowledge also feature.

Some updates extend recorded locations for rice-paper making, flower growing, Hrê stilt-house techniques and the preparation of Quảng Ngãi's don dish.

While many practices remain active, the inventory records declining traditions and concerns about successors, including for Hơ Mon epics. Identifying the practices, their communities and locations is intended to support provincial management and safeguarding. The total is a combination of additions and updates, rather than 47 newly added traditions.
