SATRA is putting store efficiency and centralised management ahead of expanding its outlet count at any cost, VnExpress reported. The state owned trading company’s retail network comprises four Satramart supermarkets and nearly 140 Satrafoods stores, while institutional customers are becoming a more prominent part of its strategy.

New demand beyond shop counters

Company figures cited in the report show wholesale revenue rising 150.1% in the first nine months of the year. Revenue from customers outside its own system increased 86.3%. These are channel specific growth rates rather than a measure of the group’s overall sales.

Hotels, restaurants, schools, hospitals and large businesses are among the targeted customers. SATRA has closed underperforming stores while considering locations near social housing, medical facilities and industrial zones. It has also refreshed branding at 30 stores and replaced 81 refrigerated cabinets across 31 outlets.

Connecting production and distribution

The retail network provides member companies with a sales channel and feedback on products. Distribution revenue for member companies’ goods through that network rose 3.8%, including a 68.2% increase for Cofidec products, according to SATRA’s figures.

Further upstream, Vissan is working on relocation procedures, production technology and traceability. Cofidec is preparing a preliminary feasibility report for a new agricultural and seafood processing plant. That remains a preparation stage rather than new operating capacity.

SATRA’s next tasks include reorganising logistics and connecting data across retail, finance, staffing and warehousing. Its 2026 Vietnamese product programme received more than 100 applications and selected 41 exhibitors. For smaller suppliers, the practical opportunity lies in meeting distribution requirements and obtaining access to stores as those connections develop.
