Vietnam's national sports training centre has honoured coaches and athletes for their contributions at the 20th Asian Games and fifth Asian Para Games. Sài Gòn Giải Phóng reported that the ceremony recognised members of the centre who helped the two national delegations.

Vietnam sent 348 athletes to the Asian Games and finished 20th overall with three gold, three silver and 19 bronze medals, according to the newspaper. The centre supplied 51 athletes from 13 national teams, who contributed three medals to that total.

The centre's Asian Games medals

Châu Ngọc Tuyết Sang won silver in virtual taekwondo. The men's four rowing crew of Hoàng Văn Đạt, Nguyễn Phú, Thái Bảo Toàn and Trần Dương Nghĩa took bronze, as did weightlifter Trần Minh Trí in the men's 65 kg class.

The newspaper also noted contributions from centre athletes in gymnastics, swimming and archery beyond the medal performances. The three medals are the centre's contribution, distinct from the full medal count of Vietnam's delegation.

Para Games results and next steps

Vietnam won one gold, two silver and two bronze medals at the Asian Para Games to finish 20th, the report said. Twelve athletes from the centre's weightlifting and athletics teams contributed three: Lê Văn Công took silver in men's 49 kg weightlifting, while Nguyễn Thị Ngọc Thúy earned bronze in both javelin and discus.

Sports authority deputy director Nguyễn Hồng Minh asked the centre to improve training, apply science to recovery, strengthen anti-doping work and develop the next generation. Centre director Phạm Thanh Tú said it would work with localities to identify and train young talent while supporting fair competition.
