Round 5 of the SACOMBANK V.League 2 – 2026/27, Vietnam's second tier, will be played over 27 and 28 October with seven matches. Both of the top two face opponents still looking for a first win: leaders Thái Nguyên travel to Long An at 15:30 on 28 October, and second-placed Hưng Yên host Huế at 18:00 the same day. VPF, the league organiser, sees it as a chance for both to extend their strong starts while the chasing pack try to keep pace.

Source: KBVN+ data. Thái Nguyên lead Hưng Yên by two points despite a weaker goal difference, and Khatoco Khánh Hòa (8 points) are the only other unbeaten side.
VPF's statistics show 87 goals after four rounds (3.11 per match), 128 yellow cards, 2 red cards and 69,000 spectators (2,464 per match). Round 4 alone produced 29 goals, and the best-attended game was Khatoco Khánh Hòa v Thép Cần Thơ, watched by 5,000 in Nha Trang.
How Thái Nguyên keep winning
According to Thể thao & Văn hóa, cited by Bongda24h, Phạm Minh Đức's side are the only club in Vietnam's professional system with a 100 per cent record, even without the big-name squads of promotion rivals Công an Nhân dân, Becamex TP.HCM or Hưng Yên. The core is a young group developed in Hà Nội football that won the 2026 national Second Division, topped up with experienced players who have played in the V.League and the second tier. Goalkeeper Phan Đình Vũ Hải, midfielders Trần Trung Hiếu and Đinh Tuấn Tài and centre-back Cao Trần Hoàng Hùng have helped shore up the defence.
American striker Victor Mansaray leads the line with 9 goals in 4 games. In round 4 Thái Nguyên twice fell behind at Becamex TP.HCM before winning 3-2, with youngster Nguyễn Đình Thịnh scoring the winner and also providing an assist. The club is financially backed by the T&T Group, which also runs Hà Nội FC. The piece notes, however, that Thái Nguyên have not yet faced direct rivals such as Công an Nhân dân or Hưng Yên.
Team news and other ties
The organisers have listed two suspensions for round 5:
- Nguyễn Tấn Minh (No. 88, Xuân Thiện Phú Thọ) misses the game against Đại học Văn Hiến on 27 October after three yellow cards.
- Nguyễn Mạnh Hưng (No. 4, Hưng Yên) misses the game against Huế on 28 October after a red card.
Hưng Yên, known last season as Trẻ PVFCAND, are unbeaten and two points off the top. VPF expects Bùi Đoàn Quang Huy's side to go for three points at home against Huế, who are winless in four games since returning to the second tier, and says second-from-bottom Long An face a big test against Thái Nguyên's attack.
Elsewhere, VPF rates Công an Nhân dân (7 points) as favourites at Lâm Đồng, who lost 0-4 to Quy Nhơn United last time out. Becamex TP.HCM (7 points) need a quick response after their unbeaten run ended, while Thép Cần Thơ (5 points) would move above them with a win. TP.HCM and Quy Nhơn United meet level on 4 points, after Quy Nhơn's first win of the season and TP.HCM's 2-2 draw with Huế.
What's next
